The Windsor Fire Protection District is teaming up with Windsor High School to hold a chili cook-off on March 8 to benefit the Windsor Fire Foundation and the Windsor High School Vineyard Academy.

Fire Engineer Mike Stornetta said the cook-off came about when Windsor High culinary teacher Marie Ganister approached him with the idea.

"We wanted a way to support these two great causes," he said.

The Windsor Fire Foundation supports public safety efforts such as the creation of a swift water rescue team, while the Vineyard Academy gives students hands-on experience with vineyard management.

23 teams, including numerous fire departments and high schools, will cook up chili for the event.

Stornetta is hoping to sell out of the 600 , $20 chili-tasting tickets, but anyone can come to enjoy the live music and other events, he said.

The event, to be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on the Windsor Town Green, will kick off at 12 p.m. with the National Anthem and a flag raising.
