A Saturday morning kitchen fire in Rohnert Park was doused by firefighters after a neighbor heard a smoke alarm and called 911.

The neighbor called at 9:20 a.m. to report the alarm at a home in the 4000 block of Heath Circle. Firefighters arrived to find a fire burning across the kitchen ceiling, Rohnert Park Public Safety Department officials said.

In addition to crews from Rohnert Park, firefighters from the Rincon Valley and Rancho Adobe fire departments responded.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire. Three dogs were cared for by a neighbor, according to officials. Damage was estimated at $35,000, they said.
