Two badly hurt in Rio Nido head-on crash; driver jailed

Three people were injured, two critically, in a head-on collision on River Road in Rio Nido on Saturday morning.

Joseph Torres III, 25, of Stockton was traveling west at speeds reported between 90 and 100 mph on River Road before the 9:30a.m. collision. Witnesses reported seeing Torres' 2001 Nissan Sentra crossing double-yellow lines and passing other vehicles before the collision, the CHP said.

Kathleen Fenton, 66, of Jenner was attempting to turn her 2011 Toyota Corolla left from eastbound River Road in Rio Nido when she was struck head-on by Torres' vehicle.

Fenton sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where she was reported in critical condition late Saturday.

Torres suffered from fractured ribs and lacerations and his passenger, Thomas Leone, 31, suffered major injuries and was reported in critical condition late Saturday.

Torres was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and was being held on $100,000 bail in Sonoma County Jail.
