Crash knocks out power to 4,500 in east Santa Rosa

An early morning hit-and-run knocked out power to more than 4,500 east Santa Rosa households, but service to all but nine residents was restored by mid-morning, according to PG&E.

The crash was reported at 5:39 a.m. Monday on Bennett Valley Road just east of Brookwood Avenue, Santa Rosa police said.

A vehicle ran into a utility pole, bringing down power lines and causing a transformer to blow, according to initial dispatch reports. The driver fled the scene, police said.

The area affected by the power outage stretched along Bennett Valley Road from the Sonoma County Fairgrounds east to nearly Grange Road.
