<strong>SONOMA</strong>

<strong> Cavallo opens second eatery, Burgers &amp;amp; Vine:</strong> Carlo Cavallo of Meritage Martini Oyster Bar &amp;amp; Grille has opened a second Sonoma restaurant, the Burgers &amp;amp; Vine Barbecue Joint, in the former Cucina Viansa space.

The restaurant, which opened Feb. 22 after a long renovation process, seats 110 inside plus 30 at the bar. It is open for lunch and dinner every day.

The menu includes burgers and chicken wings, hand-cut fries and shakes, as well as a family-style barbecue menu featuring dishes like whole roasted chicken.

The upscale but casual restaurant also offers homemade pies for dessert, in flavors such as chocolate pecan, apple crumble and key lime, plus housemade gelato.

The historic property directly across from the Sonoma Mission started out as a creamery where Joe Vella made ice cream alongside his brother Tom, who went on to establish the Vella Cheese company.

There are six TVs for watching sports and live music performances Thursday through Sundays. Cavallo plans to add brunch on weekends in the near future.

Burgers &amp;amp; Vine is located at 400 First St. East. It is open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

<strong>SANTA ROSA</strong>

<strong> Spinster Sisters hosts winemaker dinner:</strong> The Spinster Sisters will host a winemaker dinner with Peay Vineyards at 5 p.m. March 20 at the A Street neighboorhood restaurant in Santa Rosa.

Chef Liza Hinman will prepare a three-course meal paired with Peay wines, and winemaker Andy Peay will personally introduce each wine.

<strong>PETALUMA</strong>

<strong> Touring, tasting artisan cheeses at 8th festival:</strong> The 8th annual California's Artisan Cheese Festival brings together passionate cheese lovers Friday through Sunday, March 21 to 23, for three delicious days of touring, tasting and more.

Friday's itinerary includes six sold-out farm tours during the day, from Point Reyes to Sebastopol. A reception with the cheesemakers will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Sheraton Sonoma County-Petaluma hotel. Cost is $35.

Saturday, you can sign up for an array of seminars and workshops led by such cheese experts as Janet Fletcher, Laura Werlin and Seana Davis, all held at the Sheraton.

The Grand Cheese Tasting &amp;amp; Best in Cheese Competition will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, with more than 50 artisan cheesemakers, restaurants, breweries and wineries participating. Each restaurant has been paired up with a cheesemaker to create unique, cheese-centric bites, and attendees will have a chance to vote for their favorite. Cost is $75.

At 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Chef Percy Whatley of Yosemite's historic Ahwahnee Hotel will serve a Sunday brunch featuring Gloria Ferrer bubbles. Cost is $115 (includes marketplace).

The Artisan Cheese Tasting &amp;amp; Marketplace opens at noon with more than 75 artisan cheese and food producers, winemakers, brewers and chefs sampling their products. Cost is $45, $20 for kids 12 and under.

<strong>SANTA ROSA</strong>

<strong> West End Farmers Market opening:</strong> The West End Farmers Market opens for the 2014 season 10 a.m. Sunday at 817 Donahue Street in historic Railroad Square.

The Timothy O'Neill Band will help shoppers get into the groove with some twangy, acoustic folk rock.

<strong>SONOMA</strong>

<strong> Celebrate St. Pat's Day with Irish food, wine:</strong> Meadowcroft Wines will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with an Irish Food &amp;amp; Wine experience at noon Saturday in the winery tasting room at Cornerstone Sonoma.

Meadowcroft Chef Darby Tarantino, a graduate of the Ballymaloe Cookery School in County Cork, will prepare a menu of Roasted Beetroot and Rocket Salad, Lamb Stew with Green String Farms, Leek and Spring Onion Col-cannon, Irish Farmhouse cheeses with Irish Soda Bread, and a traditional Banoffee Pie, featuring bananas, cream and toffee. Each course will be paired with wine.

"This is about as close to Irish countryside comfort food as you will find anywhere in California," said Tarantino.

<strong> SANTA ROSA</strong>

<strong> Battle of the Brews at county fairgrounds:</strong> If you're a fan of beer, you won't want to miss the annual Battle of the Brews March 29. The annual event at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds will showcase more than 50 drafts and food vendors vying for your vote while "Cover Me Badd," Northern California's high-energy dance band, takes the stage. Now in its 18th year, the People's Choice beer competition has become a local favorite, raising money for at-risk children in Sonoma County.

<strong>NAPA</strong>

<strong> Weekday yoga classes at Domaine Carneros:</strong> If you want to be physically fit and exuberant, how about yoga and bubbles? Napa's Domaine Carneros is now offering week-day yoga classes on the veranda of the winery's chateau with a view of hillsides ribbed with vineyards. The classes are followed up by a flute of organic bubbles, with a senior wine educator explaining the basics of wine making, organic farming and bud break before leading you back to the chateau for a brunch.

Classes require advanced bookings and will be held on weekend mornings between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. by appointment only for groups of 8 to 10. Prices are $125 per person for the yoga class, vineyard walk and sparkling-wine brunch, or $175 with an additional hour-long wine education seminar and tasting led by sommelier Christie Dufault.
