Fruitless search for shirtless trespasser in Petaluma

A report of a shirtless man in a Petaluma resident's backyard triggered a search of the southwestern part of the city Monday afternoon.

A resident in the area of West Haven Way and Windsor Drive reported around 1:40 p.m. that a man acting strangely and wearing only a pair of blue shorts jumped over the fence into his backyard and then jumped back over, Sgt. Andrew Urton said.

The man was described as white and in his 20s.

Police alerted residents to avoid the area while officers conducted a search with the help of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department helicopter. The area is located near Helen Putnam Regional Park.

The man was not located and police called off the search around 4 p.m. Anyone with information can contact Petaluma police a 762-2727.
