Toddler taken to hospital after fall from second-story window

A 3-year-old Santa Rosa boy fell out of a second story window Sunday afternoon at his home on West Steele Lane.

The child was conscious when he was taken to a local hospital around 5:15 p.m., according to witness Clayton Mullaly who was across the street at the 7-Eleven and saw the child fall.

"I heard a 'donk' and then screaming," Mullaly said at the scene shortly after the ambulance took the child to the hospital.

The accident happened at the Cedar Woods apartments 2115 West Steele Lane. Mullaly pointed to a second-story window that remained opened wide enough for the child to fit through. Below the window was small deck. A green awning just beneath the window may have broken the child's fall somewhat, Mullaly said.

The parents of the child were not home, but his older sister said he did not appear to be seriously injured. An emergency dispatcher said Santa Rosa police listed the child's injuries as minor.
