ROHNERT PARK: Film's sommelier returns to SSU
Master Sommelier Ian Cauble, an alumnus of Sonoma State University, will return to the Rohnert Park campus at 6 p.m. Friday for a special screening of "Somm," a film documenting his journey to become the 197th master sommelier in history.
The screening, held in the SSU Student Center Ballroom, will begin with a food-and-wine pairing selected by Cauble and SSU executive chef Eric Lee. Cauble will answer questions after the film.
"I wouldn't be a master sommelier today if I hadn't attended Sonoma State," Cauble said. "The connections I made changed the trajectory of my life."
"Somm" takes place in six countries over the span of two years and documents the journey of four sommeliers through the four-level education and exam process.
With a fellow SSU alumnus, Cauble recently co-founded SommSelect, a direct-to-consumer website where wine enthusiasts receive special offers.
