Mendocino County sheriff's deputies have arrested a Ukiah man suspected of stabbing another man early Tuesday near the Ukiah airport.

Michael France, 25, is being held in the Mendocino County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the Sheriff's Office.

He already was being held in the county jail on a no-bail warrant and narcotics charges when investigators connected him to the stabbing, authorities said.

France was carrying three knives when he was arrested on narcotics charges Wednesday in Willits, authorities said. One of the knives matched the description of a knife used in the Tuesday morning assault, authorities said.

The stabbing victim subsequently picked France out of a photo lineup, authorities said.

The 24-year-old victim was stabbed twice in the torso on Laws Avenue at about 4:30 a.m., authorities said. They suspected the victim may have been trying to buy drugs in the high-crime neighborhood.

The man phoned for help from a nearby bus stop, authorities said.
