Suspect in Contra Costa County slaying arrested in Sonoma

A fugitive, wanted on suspicion of murder in Contra Costa County, was arrested Wednesday in Sonoma, the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said.

Michael P. McQueen Jr., 28, of Pinole was arrested in the 18000 block of Wegele Drive by U.S. Marshals and deputies from the Contra Costa sheriff's homicide division.

"He was arrested without incident," said Sgt. Garrett Schiro, head of the Contra Costa Sheriff's Homicide Division. "He's now in custody where he is being questioned."

Schiro said McQueen was identified as the main suspect in the slaying of 24-year-old Nicholas Callen of Pinole, who was found shot to death March 31 in an unincorporated area near San Pablo.

Schiro said the house where McQueen was arrested apparently belonged to a friend.
