Body of man believed to be transient discovered in Healdsburg

The body of a suspected transient was discovered late Monday night along the train tracks near Healdsburg Avenue just north of Powell Street.

The white male, who was believed to be in his 50s, was discovered by two other transients in a field near the tracks just northwest of the Silveira auto dealership on Healdsburg Avenue, said Healdsburg Police Sgt. Nick Castaneda.

The body was found lying near several empty liquor bottles, he said.

"This area is well-traveled by our transient population," Castaneda said. "We haven't found any indication this is anything suspicious."

The man's identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives. Castaneda said the man had identification on him from Arizona.

He said the Sonoma County Coroner's Office was notified and was en route to the scene before 10 p.m. Monday.
