High-speed chase ends in crash, arrest of Sebastopol man

A Sebastopol driver was arrested Sunday after leading a police officer on a short chase reaching speeds of about 90 mph, Sebastopol police said.

The officer tried to stop the driver, 18-year-old Michael Angelo Silveria, after a DMV records check showed that Silveria was unlicensed, said Capt. James Conner, referencing the officer's report. That was at around 10:40 p.m. on Gravenstein Highway, near Cooper Road.

Instead of stopping, the driver fled, leading the officer on a 4-mile pursuit down Gravenstein Highway. It ended near Bartleson Road when Silveria lost control of his car and crashed into a ditch, Conner said. Even when Silveria crashed the car he tried to drive away, and the officer had to break open the driver's window to finally stop him, Conner said.

The officer arrested Silveria for driving without a license and evading a police officer, Conner said.
