STOCKTON _ NCAA Division II power Humboldt State defeated Sonoma State, 8-6, Sunday to capture the CCAA softball tournament championship.
The Seawolves won the first meeting Sunday against the No. 6-rated Lumberjacks, 6-3, to set up the title contest.
Sonoma (38-21) and the Lumberjacks (46-14) should both enter NCAA regional play.
In the first game, the Seawolves took a three-run lead in the third inning on a three-run home run by Hayley Condon. Two more runs came across the plate in the top of the fourth inning on a solo shot by Amanda Rossetta.
Winning pitcher Katy Bihl allowed only two hits in 6 1/3 innings.
SSU rallied for five runs in the third, led by a two-run homer by Megan Konieczka. Rossetta followed with her second homer of the day to give SSU the 3-2 lead.
The Lumberjacks tied the game before a three-run fifth. Tiff Hollingsworth and Dani Randall blasted home runs<NO1>Konieczka went 2 for 4 with three RBI in the second game.
Rossetta and Ray both had two hits apiece as well. Bihl (7-6) started and went the first four innings.
Madison Williams (9-1) was the winning pitcher in relief for HSU.
