The James Beard Foundation announced its 2014 awards Monday night in a ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York, with North Bay authors, chefs and restaurants among the winners.
Santa Rosa chef John Ash won a 2014 James Beard Foundation Book Award for his 2013 cookbook, "Culinary Birds: The Ultimate Poultry Cookbook" (Running Press, 2013) in the category of single subject book.
The Healdsburg Shed, designed by Jensen Architects of San Francisco, won an Outstanding Restaurant Design Award. The award was given for a North American restaurant with 76 and over seats designed or renovated since Jan. 1, 2011.
In the Best Chefs in America category, Daniel Patterson of Coi in San Francisco won for Best Chef: West, beating out San Francisco chefs Corey Lee of Benu and Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski of State Bird Provisions.
The Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena snagged the award for Outstanding Service, beating out Quince of San Francisco.
The Slanted Door of San Francisco, owned by chef Charles Phan, took home the award for Outstanding Restaurant in the U.S. The Vietnamese restaurant has been located in San Francisco Ferry Building for the past 10 years.
