Petaluma police seek suspect in equipment theft

Petaluma Police are looking for a man suspected of using someone else's identity to rent a trailer and other commercial equipment without returning it.

The man was caught on surveillance camera May 3 renting a flatbed trailer and generator from Cal West Rentals in Petaluma. The company called the police when he did not return the equipment.

When police investigated the name on the identification card he provided, they discovered the man had stolen someone else's identity and used it to rent commercial truck equipment in Oakland and Southern California.

The trailer was described as a 2002 Demco DT6000E flatbed car trailer, California license plate 4AF199, and a Honda model EU2001 generator.

Police asked that anyone who recognizes the suspect or the vehicle contact the department at 778-4372.
