Two cats sitting in a motel room window led Lakeport police to a stash of marijuana and cocaine believed to be part of a major drug processing and shipping operation.

No arrests were initially made, but investigators are looking for a man and woman who were using the room and may have had young children with them, Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said in a press release.

The episode unfolded after the manager of the Regency Inn in Lakeport spotted the two cats and called animal control to have them removed, Rasmussen said.

Officers were called when the animal control officials saw marijuana in the room, and police obtained a warrant and searched the premises about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Police seized about 14 pounds of marijuana bud and about 646 grams of concentrated cannabis, both packaged for sale and shipment, and more than 32 grams of powdered cocaine, Rasmussen said.

Also found in the room were shipping boxes and other containers, vacuum sealing equipment, rolls of bags, detailed records of drug amounts and a recent shipping receipt from a post office in Lake County.
