Wine list

Press Democrat wine writer Peg Melnik scopes out wine lists around the North Bay, looking for good value and the occasional splurge. This week's picks (prices are retail; restaurant markup varies.)

Picket Fence, 2012 Alexander Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 13.5 percent alcohol, $16. Refreshing, with notes of grapefruit and mineral. Bright acidity. Crisp finish. A steal for the price.

Inman Family "Endless Crush," 2013 Ros?of Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, 12.5 percent, $25. A dry ros?with wild strawberry, watermelon and a hint of mineral. Bright acidity. Crisp finish. Well done.

Chateau St. Jean, 2011 Robert Young Vineyard, Alexander Valley Single Vineyard Chardonnay, 14.4 percent, $25. A complex chardonnay with notes of white peach, melon, mineral and a hint of vanilla. Bright acidity. Nice length.

Clos Du Val, 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.5 percent, $38. A cab with a range of flavors - blackberry, chocolate and a hint of toffee. Ripe tannins. Elegant, with a lingering finish.

Iron Horse, 2012 Iron Horse Vineyards Native Yeast, Green Valley, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County Chardonnay, 13.2 percent, $48. A chardonnay with depth. Aromas and flavors of pineapple and lime. Great minerality. Lingering finish. A knockout.
