A Lake County man is in jail after robbing a pharmacy at knifepoint Monday morning, Lake County Sheriff's officials said.
Craig Anthony Lent, 25, wore a bandana over his face and held a large knife to the pharmacist's throat when he demanded Dialaudid, a narcotic pain medication, during the holdup at North Lake Medical Pharmacy in Lakeport, said Sheriff's Lt. Steve Brooks.
He then fled on foot toward nearby Sutter Lakeside Hospital, he said.
Deputies arrived quickly, set up a perimeter of the immediate area and located Lent a short while later, Brooks said.
Lent possessed the prescription bottles taken from the pharmacy and admitted to robbing the business, he said.
The man told deputies he had run out of the pain medication, to which he is addicted, Brooks said.
Dilaudid is a potent narcotic that drug addicts sometimes crush, then inject intravenously.
Lent was booked into county jail on suspicion of armed robbery, burglary, possession of stolen property and brandishing a dangerous weapon.
