Santa Rosa driver dies of self-inflicted stab wounds

A Santa Rosa man who stabbed himself dozens of times while being pursued by CHP officers has died, the CHP said Wednesday.

The 46-year-old died Friday after being hospitalized in critical care for four days.

Apparently suicidal, the man had been spotted by other drivers on May 5, stabbing himself as he drove a Lexus on Highway 12 near Stony Point Road.

Still attacking himself, he drove east to Farmers Lane and then reversed course. With two CHP officers in pursuit, he sped west on Highway 12 to Fulton Road, where he crashed into two other vehicles, the CHP has said.

CHP officers found him coated in blood and not breathing. He was given CPR and revived.

Friday he reportedly succumbed to his injuries.

The other drivers in the collision reportedly weren't seriously injured.
