A motorcycle rider traveling too fast as he rode on rural Westside Road late Saturday afternoon lost control, crashed into a creek and died, the CHP said.

The 68-year-old Santa Rosa man was riding at a high speed when he missed a curve and his Harley Davidson left the pavement, according to a preliminary CHP investigation.

The bike headed straight into a creekbed and he was thrown, landing face down in the water.

People stopping to help pulled him from the water. The man was declared dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at about 6 p.m., north of Hozz Road.

His name wasn't released Saturday night pending notification of his family.

Along with CHP, Healdsburg firefighters and a Bell's ambulance crew responded.
