A Rohnert Park man intentionally tumbled Saturday afternoon from a Rohnert Park overcrossing ledge 34 feet to the Highway 101 shoulder below and suffered major injuries, according to Rohnert Park police.
The 31-year-old man landed to the right of the northbound slow lane and didn't appear to be hit by any vehicles, Rohnert Park Sgt. Brandon Davidge said.
Unconscious but breathing, he was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
The incident occurred at about 1:25 p.m.
A CHP officer spotted a man hanging off of a chain link fence along the Rohnert Park Expressway overcrossing.
The motorcycle officer turned around to check on him and found the man standing on the ledge.
As the officer was asking him to return to the safe side of the fence, the man sat down on the ledge, leaned forward and fell, Davidge said.
It appeared he acted on purpose, the sergeant said.
