A Rohnert Park police officer on Sunday night rammed his squad car into a suspected drunken driver's vehicle to stop the driver from fleeing police by entering the wrong way onto Highway 101.
The unnamed driver previously had sped away from another officer at a traffic stop about 9:30 p.m. on Rancho Verde Circle. Police pursued the driver along Rohnert Park Expressway, Highway 101 and Stony Point Road before losing sight of him, according to a press release.
Even after police gave up the pursuit, the driver was reported to have collided with another vehicle. An officer then spotted the driver's vehicle at the interchange of highways 101 and 116.
The driver pulled the wrong way onto the northbound offramp from Highway 101, but the officer rammed the vehicle and ended the chase.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
