Wine list

Press Democrat wine writer Peg Melnik scopes out wine lists around the North Bay, looking for good value and the occasional splurge. This week's picks (prices are retail; restaurant markup varies.)

Simi, 2013 Roseto Sonoma County, 13.5 percent alcohol, $18. A ros?with great structure. It has bright berry fruit, crisp acidity and great mineralty. A great pick for summer.

Fog Crest Vineyard, 2011 Russian River Valley, Estate Chardonnay, 14.2 percent, $39. This is a lush chardonnay with layered flavors. Notes of peach, cr?e br?l? and fig. Nice length. A solid pick.

Marimar Estate, 2010 Don Miguel Vineyard, Bonita's Hill, Russian River Valley Chardonnay, 13.5 percent, $39. A striking chardonnay with complex flavors. Notes of pear, cr?e br?l? and spice. Creamy texture. Lingering finish. Lovely.

Dashe, 2011 Todd Brothers Ranch Old Vines, Alexander Valley Zinfandel, 14.5 percent, $35. Zesty, with aromas and flavors of black raspberry, cassis and licorice. Snappy spice. Tasty.

Carlisle, 2012 Sodini Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County Zinfandel, 15.2 percent, $40. A juicy zinfandel packed with flavor. Notes of cherry, herbs and mineral. Has depth, with a great concentration of fruit. A knockout.
