A Santa Rosa man was shot in the thigh Monday night, and police are still looking for the shooter.

Santa Rosa police received a call just before 8:30 p.m. Monday that a man had showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

Officers who interviewed the man found that he was walking alone in the 2000 block of Range Avenue about 7:30 p.m. when a car stopped and several people got out. They began talking to the man, and then a fight started, Santa Rosa Sgt. Lisa Banayat said in a news release.

The fight culminated in someone shooting the man. Then the suspects got back in the car and drove away, Banayat said.

The man, 18, called for a ride home but then decided to go to the hospital. His wound was not life-threatening, police said. He could not identify his assailants, though he told police that he might have seen at least one of them before, Banayat said.

Police are looking for the assailants, who drove away in a late 1990s or early 2000s model black Nissan sedan. They're also seeking the weapon.

Officers are still investigating what started the fight and haven't determined whether it was gang related, Banayat said.
