Teen hit in Petaluma crosswalk crash identified

Petaluma police identified a Sebastopol teen Monday as the pedestrian struck while crossing the street after midnight on New Year's Day in a suspected DUI-related collision.

Kristopher Tolson, 15, was admitted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with a possible broken right leg and injured right shoulder, police said.

Tolson was struck while crossing East Washington Street in Petaluma early Sunday by a driver who police said later admitted drinking alcohol.

The driver, Wesley Pickford, 20, of Novato, was driving west on East Washington Street about 12:30 a.m. when he hit the boy, who was walking with other people in a marked crosswalk at Edith Street, police said. The other pedestrians were not injured.

Pickford's initial blood-alcohol test showed a level of 0.15 percent, almost twice the legal limit for driving, police said.

He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on $30,000 bail, but had been released by Monday, according to jail staff.
