A Santa Rosa police officer on patrol early Thursday on Montecito Boulevard came upon a pickup truck smashed into a pole, an injured man on the ground and a suspected drunken driver, reported Sgt. Lance Badger.

It was just after 2 a.m. and the crash apparently had just occurred at Benjamin Road, east of Middle Rincon Road.

The man, a passenger in the Chevy pickup, had major injuries to his face. He'd apparently been thrown into the dashboard and may not have been wearing a seat belt.

Driver Brittney Hartley, 22, of Santa Rosa was running from the truck and yelling for help.

She appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving due to the injuries to the passenger, Badger said.

Kevin Cole, 31, of Santa Rosa was taken to a local hospital.

Hartley was taken to the Sonoma County Jail.
