Production demands for NuCrete was a major driver behind Sonoma Cast Stone's move to Petaluma at the beginning of this month, according to Mr. Rosenblatt. The company leased 35,000sf of industrial space at 133 Copeland Street, some three times as much space as it had in Sonoma, and 10 to 12 more employees are expected to be added to the 45-member workforce this year.

He says the company needed the extra space for greater production capacity as it continues its nationwide expansion as well as for warming rooms and low-temperature ovens needed to produce NuCrete products.

Sonoma Cast Stone makes custom and premade concrete bathroom and kitchen countertops, sinks, fireplace surrounds, tiles, and pavers. The company expanded distribution last year from 87 dealers -- including CTW Design in Novato and Premier Bath and Kitchen in Santa Rosa -- to 96 today.

Mr. Rosenblatt attributes a 20% increase in sales last year to $2.5 million to increased distribution and a dozen mentions per month in national interior design magazines. The pace for sales in the first two months of this year was double that of 2004, he adds.

He expects another boost with a full marketing push behind the NuCrete material, starting with the Coverings trade show in Florida in early May. Sonoma Cast Stone is also moving toward marketing a line of precast products.
