The first baby born in Sonoma County in 2008, and possibly the Bay Area, was delivered at 12:04 a.m. at Santa Rosa?s Kaiser Permanente Medical Center to a new mom whose birthday also is Jan 1.

Tanya Guadalupe Banuelos, weighing 7? pounds, was born to Adela and Alfredo Banuelos just minutes after midnight.

Adela Banuelos, a 26-year-old Kaiser member, told nurses she began feeling abdominal pains early on New Year?s Eve, but ignored them because her due date still was 10 days away and she still had shopping to do for the baby.

Later in the day, her husband Alfredo, a construction worker, convinced her it was time to go to Kaiser hospital and about four hours later, the couple had what the Bay Area news media, including the Spanish language channel Univision, reported as being the first San Francisco area baby born in the new year.
