Rumi's Caravan: One of winter's most popular events, Rumi's Caravan, takes place on Feb. 9 at the Glaser Center (547 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa).
About a dozen performers and musicians will celebrate Rumi, the 13th century Persian poet who remains extremely popular today.
The evening gets started at 6 p.m. with wine and appetizers. The performance begins at 7 p.m. and tea and cake will be served during intermission.
One of the things that we most love about this event is that lavish attire is encouraged.
Cost is $25 per person; net proceeds benefit the Climate Protection Campaign.

Art reception: On Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., the Petaluma Arts Center (230 Lakeville St., Petaluma) hosts a reception for "4 Weavers: Contemporary Expressions of an Ancient Craft."
The afternoon event will feature dancers in dyed, printed and woven costumes created by the featured artists, which include Ulla de Larios, Candace Crocket, Barbara Shapiro and Suki Russack.
The exhibition will remain on view through March 10. Throughout the run, there will be demonstrations, lectures and workshops by the artists. For a full schedule, visit petalumaartscenter.org.
Grappa Tasting: On Friday, Jan. 18, Michael Traverso and Fred Thumbhart of Sonoma County Single Malt Society will host a very special tasting of artisan grappas and brandy from the Poli Distillery. Alberto Dalle Carbonare of the distillery will be the evening's special guest.
As of press time, the spirits to be tasted include Uva Viva, a grape brandy of moscato and malvasia; Sarpa, grappa of cabernet sauvignon and merlot; Barrique, a grappa aged in oak barrels; Traminer, a grappa of gewurztraminer; Torcolato, a grappa of dried vespaiolo grapes; Arzente, an Armagnac-style brandy of trebbiano di Soave; Pere, a fruit brandy of Williams pear; and Miele, a honey-infused grappa.
Things get started at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel (170 Railroad St., Santa Rosa). Cost is $35 for members of the Single Malt Society and $50 for non-members.

Workshop with Olive Don: On Sunday, Jan. 20, Dan Landis conducts another of his popular olive curing workshops at Cline Cellars (24737 Arnold Drive, Sonoma).
This free workshop takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes lye-free curing techniques, history, tasting and more.
Participants will be offered discounts on wine.

Thursday Talks at The Seed Bank: The tradition of free public talks and discussions on Thursday evenings at The Food Bank (199 Petaluma Blvd. N., Petaluma) continues in 2013, with this week's talk focusing on the California Homemade Food Act, a new regulation that allows for certain foods made in private homes to be packaged and sold at farmers markets and community events.
Next week's talk, which takes place on Jan. 17, focuses on holistic nutrition with Patty Sherwood, a nutritionist and teacher, and John Sanchez, a nutritionist and herbalist.
