Two Santa Rosa brothers were arrested Sunday on suspicion of firing an assault rifle from an SUV in response to an earlier fight, police officials said.
Investigators said the men had been told to leave a party at a residence on Lutztown Court off West Steele Lane after they were involved in a fight. Alexis Jaime Rueda, 22, and his brother Eduardo Carlos Rueda, 21, returned 5 to 10 minutes later with an assault rifle, Sgt. Dave Linscomb said.
A flurry of 911 callers at 1:54 a.m. Sunday reported hearing shots fired on the street. Witnesses told police shots came from a tan Jeep SUV that crashed into a parked car before driving away, Linscomb said.
No one was found to have been hit, he said.
Police found a Jeep, which they connected to the elder Rueda, on nearby Papago Court. It was damaged from a collision and had spent rifle casings on the floor inside, Linscomb said.
Police linked the vehicle to an Apple Valley Lane apartment, where police and a SWAT team arrested both men, Linscomb said. Police found an AK-47-style rifle in a shed that they suspect was used in the shooting, he said.
Detectives suspect the gunfire was in response to the fight, Linscomb said.
Rueda and Carlos were arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and of possessing an assault rifle, Linscomb said.
