Santa Rosa police arrested one motorist suspected of drunken driving Saturday during a DUI checkpoint.

The man was among nine drivers given sobriety field tests during checkpoints held at two locations.

Officers screened 1,083 vehicles out of 1,244 that passed through checkpoints on eastbound Highway 12 near Mission Boulevard and on westbound Steel Lane east of Cleveland Avenue, Sgt. Mike Numainville said.

Zachary T. Lowe, 23, of Healdsburg was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, Numainville said.

Officers also arrested Brian Mills, 33, of Santa Rosa on suspicion of methamphetamine possession and violating parole, he said.

Officers also screened the driver's license status of 46 people. Police arrested and cited 19 drivers who had no driver's licenses and impounded three vehicles for 30 days, Numainville said.

Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving when their licenses were suspended, he said.

The DUI checkpoint was the seventh Santa Rosa police have held this year.
