Lake County home destroyed by early morning blaze

Six members of a Lake County family were displaced by fire early Thursday morning from their home in the south shore community of Clear Lake Riviera, local fire officials said.

Erik Leary, his wife, Jessica, and four children, aged 1 to 9, lost virtually everything in the fire, except the clothes on their back and the vehicles parked in their driveway, friends said.

An exterior wall of a neighboring home on Fairway Drive, near the Clear Lake Riviera Golf Course, also was scorched in the blaze that broke out some time after 2 a.m. Thursday, but that house was spared extensive damage, Kelseyville Fire Battalion Chief Joe Huggins said.

It remained unknown how or precisely where between the two houses the fire started, he said.

The Red Cross sent a representative in the predawn hours Thursday to assist the family with emergency housing and clothing, and friends in the community have put together a fund-raising effort through gofundme.com, at http://www.gofundme.com/3myu8o.

Clear Lake Riviera is located about mid-way between Kelseyville and Lower Lake.
