A 67-year-old Santa Rosa man has been arrested for what police say was the repeated molestations of at least three young victims over a period lasting as long as a decade.

Rufino Cervantes was arrested Tuesday at the culmination of an investigation that began with allegations about a single victim and grew to encompass at least three more children with similar histories, beginning in the mid- or late 1990s until 2006, authorities said.

Detectives with the Santa Rosa Police Departments Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Investigations Team obtained an arrest warrant Monday for Cervantes.

He was taken into custody Tuesday on eight felony charges including suspected continuous and forcible sexual abuse of a child under age 14, oral copulation with a child under 14, and attempted molestation of a child.

Cervantes was booked into the Sonoma County Jail but was released Wednesday afternoon after posting bond for $500,000 bail, jail personnel said.
