Police seek Lucerne stabbing suspect

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is asking for help finding a Lucerne resident suspected of stabbing another man who intervened in a fight between the suspect and an unidentified woman last week.

Authorities said Juan Carlos Lopez, 25, has escaped apprehension since the July 11 incident at the Country Club Mobile Home Park in Lucerne despite initial hopes he would be captured quickly.

Lopez has been identified by several witnesses as the man who stabbed an unidentified victim after the victim overheard an escalating verbal argument between a man and woman on Country Club Drive around 11:45 p.m. that night, the sheriff's office said.

When the man, whom authorities believe to be Lopez, became physical with the woman, the victim tried to separate the two but was himself stabbed and wounded in the side of the chest, authorities said.

The victim was found on his back in the middle of the road and was airlifted in critical condition to UC Davis Medical in Sacramento, authorities said. He has since been released and is expected to recover, the sheriff's office said.

Witnesses at the scene and during the ensuing investigation identified the suspect as Lopez, authorities said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's dispatch at (707) 263-2690.
