Petaluma police Wednesday continued to unravel what they said was a brazen armed kidnapping from a westside residence.
Three suspects, a woman and two men, remained in the Sonoma County Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $5 million apiece.
The high bail was due to the severity of the crime, including use of a gun in the kidnapping and evidence of suspected drug sales found in the suspects' vehicle, Petaluma Police Lt. Tim Lyons said.
The three are suspected of taking a 30-year-old Petaluma man from outside his Sixth Street apartment at about 9 p.m. Monday.
The victim apparently was in the courtyard of the apartment complex when they arrived.
A witness reported seeing a woman knock on the man's door before she located him in the courtyard. She pulled out a gun and aggressively ordered him into an SUV, Lyons said.
Police were called. They stopped the silver Chevrolet Tahoe about two blocks away and held the occupants at gunpoint before taking the three into custody.
Officers arrested Genoveva Ramirez, 28, of Santa Rosa, Eduardo Hernandez, 32, of Sebastopol and Raul Atilano-Lopez, 29, of Penngrove on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery, carrying a loaded weapon, possession of methamphetamine for sale and other charges.
Ramirez, who police believe brandished the gun, also was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making terrorist threats.
Witnesses reported the woman threatened the victim's roommate with the gun when the man briefly came out of the apartment, Lyons said.
In a search of the SUV, officers said they found a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun, along with 16 .40-caliber rounds, inside the center console. The gun's serial numbers were filed down, but police traced the weapon to one reported missing in 2008 from the Central Valley town of Ceres.
Also in the compartment was a small amount of methamphetamine and marijuana and multiple baggies, indicating drug sales, Lyons said.
He said the four people were at least acquaintances.
