Santa Rosa man suspected in wife's strangulation death in court Friday

A 65-year-old Santa Rosa man will make his first court appearance Friday to answer charges that he strangled his wife to death Wednesday.

Dean "Sonny" Eliason called 911 and told them he thought he'd killed his wife inside their east Santa Rosa mobile home, police said. He said he would be waiting for officers at their home in Rincon Valley Mobile Estates.

Police detained Eliason and found the body of Virginia Caetano, 64, on the floor of the couple's living room with a ligature around her neck.

Santa Rosa Homicide Investigation

Eliason was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of murder and held without bail. He is scheduled to appear before a Superior Court judge on Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Neighbors said the couple, both retired, appeared to be loving. They had lived in the complex about five years.

The homicide was the first in Santa Rosa this year.
