French winery firm acquires Calistoga's Araujo Estate Wines

Araujo Estate Wines, a Calistoga winery, has been acquired by the Art?is Group, a French company that owns Ch?eau Latour and several other wineries.

Financial terms were not disclosed. All members of the winery's staff will be retained, according to a statement issued Thursday announcing the deal.

Founded in 1990 by Bart and Daphne Araujo, the 162-acre estate winery focuses on cabernet sauvignon produced from its 38-acre Eisele Vineyard.

Held by the Pinault family, the Artemis Group owns Ch?eau Latour in Bordeaux, Domaine d'Eug?ie in Burgundy and Ch?eau Grillet in the Rhone Valley.

"The rich heritage of Ch?eau Latour and its other wine properties, combined with the family's passion for the wine business, absolute commitment to excellence, and extraordinary track record of success, assures that the stewardship of Araujo Estate and the Eisele Vineyard will continue with the best of care and intentions," Bart and Daphne Araujo said in a statement.

The couple will live at Araujo Estate until January to assist in the transition.
