Police: Couple arrested with stolen car, drugs

Santa Rosa police Friday arrested a man and woman on suspicion of vehicle theft and drug possession after a traffic stop involving a reported stolen car.

Manuel Corriea Borba, 44, and Marissa Aileen Shimkas, 30, both transients from Santa Rosa, were detained by a Santa Rosa officer just after 6 p.m. in the 200 block of Doyle Drive, police said.

The traffic stop took place after the officer recognized the 1995 Toyota Corolla they were traveling in as one that had been reported stolen July 26, Sgt. John Cregan said.

The officer first spotted the vehicle leave Doyle Park, Cregan said.

A search of the vehicle turned up methamphetamine and marijuana in Borba's and Shimkas' belongings, police said.

Borba, the driver, was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

Shimkas was arrested and booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and a controlled substance.

A third person in the vehicle who was unaware it was stolen was not arrested, police said.
