10-acre blaze near Ukiah extinguished

Ukiah-based firefighters battled a 10-acre brush fire Friday afternoon in rugged terrain off Mill Creek Road east of Ukiah.

The blaze was first reported at 11:12 a.m. near the rifle range for the North Cow Mountain Recreation Area, on federally managed land.

Hand crews, air tankers and helicopters were used to contain the slow-moving flames within about two hours, a Cal Fire dispatcher in Mendocino County said.

The fire, apparently human-caused, remains under investigation.

Firefighters from Cal Fire, the city of Ukiah and Ukiah Valley responded to the blaze.
