Window screens cut in Petaluma burglary attempts

Police arrested a 19-year-old Petaluma man on burglary charges Friday night after a woman heard someone slicing open a window screen to her home.

The 66-year-old woman who lives in an apartment complex on Lindberg Lane called police around 10:40 p.m. after she heard what sounded like a screen being cut, police said.

The woman spotted the would-be burglar in her backyard, began yelling at him and called 911, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect leaving the area on a bicycle and arrested him.

Jose Zorilla was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.

The bicycle Zorilla was riding was also later found to have been stolen from the bedroom of an 82-year-old resident of the complex, police said.

Investigators also found a screen window cut in another unit where a 94-year-old woman lives.

Zorilla was also booked on suspicion of burglary and being in possession of stolen property. He was being held in Sonoma County Jail without bail on an Immigration and Naturalization Service hold, according to a jail official.
