A mobile home fire in Rincon Valley killed two cats Friday evening.

Firefighters responded to the Rancho Cabeza Mobile Home Park off Calistoga Road shortly after 7 p.m. to find a double-wide trailer in flames, Santa Rosa Battalion Chief Mark Basque said in an release.

The heat from the fire threatened surrounding structures, but firefighters were able to bring it under control within 20 minutes. Owner Geri Sullivan wasn't home at the time of the fire, but his two cats were.

During a search of the home, firefighters found the two pets. They tried to resuscitate them but they died of apparent smoke inhalation, Basque said.

The cause of the fire, which appears to have started in the kitchen, is still under investigation. Damage was estimated at $85,000.
