Sonoma Raceway: Race fans don't have to be consigned to the spectator stands. The international raceway at the entrance to the Sonoma Valley welcomes amateurs on Wednesday nights for drag racing, drifting and karting. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. For complete information, visit racesonoma.com.

For drag racing on a professional quarter-mile strip, all makes and models are welcome. Whatever you have to drive, you're welcome to drag it as it long as it meets basic safety considerations like mufflers, seat belts and proper tires. Fast cars require a helmet. Slower vehicles get the green light sooner. 4 to 10 p.m. through Nov. 13. $25.

Top the Cop: Teen-agers can avoid the high cost of a ticket and impoundment by racing their own wheels against uniformed law enforcement officers in squad cars. $15 for high school students with I.D.

The Grand Prix Karts: Allows drivers to battle wheel to wheel on track with the benefits of a full bumper system, enclosed wheels, safety roll bar, and seat belts. Minimum age is 13 and a height of 4-feet, 7-inches. $10 entrance to raceway, $25 for first race, $45 for two races and $60 for three races.

Open Cockpit Biplane and Texan Rides: Climb onto the wing and into the front seat of a 1942 WW II open-cockpit biplane. $175 for a single passenger 20-minute ride over the Sonoma Valley. Bring a friend for only $95 more. (Cash customers get a 10-percent discount). $295 for a 40-minute ride either over the Wine Country up to St. Helena and back, west to the Pacific Ocean over Tomales Bay, or south toward San Francisco for views of Sausalito, Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge. Additional $145 for second passenger. For $50 more, insert some aerobatic thrills into the ride. Sonoma Canopy Tours: Fly with a harness through the trees at speeds up to 25 mph on ziplines. Tour is about 2? hours. $99 for adults Fridays through Sundays or $89 on weekdays.
