Clearlake Oaks man arrested on drug charges after chase

A 47-year-old Clearlake Oaks man was in custody Monday on suspicion of drug charges after leading officers on a chase in Lucerne, Lake County sheriff's officials said.

Timothy Todd Ryden sped away in a light blue BMW, nearly striking a sheriff's deputy walking up to the car at 1:10 p.m. Friday in an empty lot on the corner of Kensington Way and Country Club Drive, Lt. Steve Brooks said.

Officers had received a tip the BMW was involved in drug sales and a detective saw Ryden in the car looking at something in his lap, Brooks said.

The BMW reached about 60 mph on Country Club Drive, a 25 mph zone, with deputies in pursuit.

Deputies caught up with Ryden on the 600 block of First Avenue as Ryden tried to cover the car with a tarp, Brooks said. Ryden was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

Deputies found a large plastic bag with 31 grams of suspected methamphetamine nearby, which they said he'd tried to hide, and $1,400 in cash stashed in the driver's door pocket, Brooks said.

Ryden was arrested on suspicion of evading police, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance for sale, driving without a license and violating probation, Brooks said.
