Five cited in Santa Rosa courthouse sting

Five people were tripped up in a courthouse sting Tuesday when they disobeyed orders not to drive and got behind the wheel of their cars anyway, Santa Rosa police said.

The four men and one woman were cited in an undercover operation at Sonoma County Superior Court targeting suspected drunken drivers who either didn't have licenses or had their driving privileges suspended.

Each was watched leaving the courthouse and stopped by officers while trying to drive away, Sgt. Brad Conners said.

All were cited and had their cars impounded for 30 days, he said.

Conners said those cited were Maya Driggers, 23, of Sonoma; Manuel Turchman, 34, of Forestville; Fernando Mora, 41, of Santa Rosa, Daniel Bachner, 25, of Petaluma and Jose Fabela, 32, of Santa Rosa.

Fabela had two prior drunken driving convictions, Conners said. None of the other people cited had drunken driving convictions, but their licenses had been suspended for other violations, Conners said.
