A Santa Rosa man found in a truck at the end of a trail of debris — including a damaged fence, a fire hydrant and a power pole — was arrested for suspected drunken driving and found to have 13 prior license suspensions, the CHP said.
Steven Medeiros, 24, also had two prior drunken driving convictions and was on probation when officers responding to a crash on Moorland Avenue found him in an extremely intoxicated state around 1:30 a.m. Friday, authorities said.
Moorland told the officers that he had not been driving the Dodge pickup. He first said that a gang member had been driving, then that his brother had driven the car and fled, the CHP said.
But officers believed Medeiros had been behind the wheel and required him to submit to field sobriety tests, which he was unable to perform, authorities said.
Medeiros was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for suspected drunken driving and hit and run. He was held in lieu of $20,000 bail, jail personnel said.
