Santa Rosa Marathon times accepted for Boston despite controversy

The chaotic finish to the Santa Rosa Marathon should not jeopardize results for runners using the race to qualify for the Boston Marathon, according to that event's organizers.

The Santa Rosa race is among marathons runners can use to register for the Boston Marathon. Santa Rosa is a so-called feeder race, but Boston officials do not designate an official list of qualifier marathons.

Because the Santa Rosa Marathon has a certified measured course, times from the race are recognized as official qualifying marks for Boston, said Marc Davis, communications director for race organizer the Boston Athletic Association.

The qualifying window for the 2014 Boston Marathon opened Sept. 22, 2012. Registration is scheduled to open in early September of this year.
