A Fort Bragg man suspected of beating and stabbing his girlfriend was arraigned Friday on charges that include attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery.

Ivan Acoltzi Sanchez, 22, was arrested Monday night after witnesses reported he was assaulting a woman in a Fort Bragg intersection, according to the Fort Bragg Police Department.

Police located Sanchez at his home and the 20-year-old victim at the Mendocino Coast District Hospital emergency room, authorities said.

The victim told police she had been hit, kicked, then stabbed several times over a two-hour period.

She was able to escape the home, but Sanchez caught up with her in a nearby intersection, where he continued the assault. She again escaped and obtained a ride to the hospital, police said.

Sanchez was arrested and taken to the Mendocino County jail, where he remains on $500,000 bail.
