Man on bike suspected in Napa grocery store burglary

Riding a bicycle, a man went inside a Napa grocery store, pedaled through aisles and stole alcohol and dessert before being caught by police, Napa police said Monday.

The bike rider went into the Lucky store on California Boulevard and initially took several wine coolers, according to police reports.

He then rode outside, set the drinks down and went back into the store — this time taking cake from the bakery department.

As officers arrived to the Friday afternoon call at the store the suspect rode up to them, still holding the cake, police said.

Surveillance tapes from the store showed he had been the bike rider and officers arrested Jose Luis Sanchez, 27, on suspicion of burglary.

Officers also found he was carrying methamphetamine, police said. He was booked into the Napa County Jail.
