SONOMA: Tips from Master Gardeners
The Valley of the Moon Garden Club on March 7 will host a panel of Master Gardeners to offer gardening tips and field questions.
Master gardeners are lay educators who undergo more than 50 hours of training from University of California specialists, advisers and other professionals in the nursery and landscape industries. Their intensive training covers botany, composting, integrated pest management (IPM), soils, water management, entomology, plant pathology, fruit and ornamental tree culture and sustainable landscape practices.
The Master Gardeners on the panel will be Dennis Przybycien, Diane Kenworthy and Dave Gould.
The free presentation is open to non-members. 7 p.m. in Room 110 of the Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa Street, Sonoma. A plant drawing and refreshments follow the meeting. For information call at 935-5939.
SANTA ROSA: Ideas for floral arrangements
Floral designer Wil Gonzalez of Willits will show how he takes inspiration from great art to create arrangements during the March 7 meeting of the Santa Rosa Garden Club.
Gonzalez has been a regular participant in Bouquets to Art, a fundraiser held annually at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. The event, scheduled this year for March 19 to 23, pairs Bay Area floral designers with specific pieces of art in the museum's collection and asks them to create a floral arrangement inspired by it.
Gonazalez will demonstrate his techniques, creating arrangements on the spot inspired by the works of six Sonoma County artists, including T. Barny, Michele Weitzenberg and Eda Varricchio, a garden club member.
The 2 p.m. demonstration at the Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center, 2050 Yulupa Ave., is open to the general public and will include a live auction of the arrangements at the end.
