Beginning this week, The Press Democrat will have two levels of access to local news and information on our websites and mobile sites.
If you are a home delivery or digital-only subscriber, you will have unlimited access to the Press Democrat website and mobile sites. "All Digital Access" is included in your print subscription. You will only have to register online to connect to your print subscription by clicking on the First-Time Activation button <a href="https://dpw1.pressdemocrat.com/Login.aspx" target="_blank">here</a>.
Subscribers will also have unlimited access to the newspaper's e-Edition, an exact replica of the paper online. If you're currently a subscriber paying for e-Edition, that charge will be dropped.
Non-subscribers will have free access to a generous number of online articles each month, but once you exceed the monthly story limit, you will need to subscribe to continue reading. We've made it easy and very low-cost for you to try out this new service by offering your first month for only $1.99.
Much of the Press Democrat site will remain accessible to all. All readers will be able to access automotive, real estate and help wanted ads, for example. Content such as PDpreps, Towns and our calendar of events will remain free to all readers.
Like other news organizations across the country, we are asking those who rely on our continually updated online news to help support the cost of our newsgathering. Our newsroom represents the largest concentration of journalists in the North Bay and our news report is the region's most comprehensive.
We believe these news reports have value whether they're on newsprint, on your desktop computer, phone or tablet. But if you subscribe to the newspaper, we believe you should also have access to everything we publish online.
A common question is "How many stories may I read for free each month if I'm not a subscriber?" Each user experience will differ because it will depend on the combination of stories available for free to everyone, and the number of stories for which we provide unlimited access to subscribers only. Some readers will never reach that limit each month, but most will.
You're likely going to have more questions than this space will allow me to answer. Starting today, ads will appear in the paper on a regular basis to help walk you through these changes. Our local customer care team is also available to take your calls at 575-7500.
